WPA - WHO Workshop on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Areas Affected by Disasters and Conflicts

WHO Headquarters, Geneva, July 27-31, 2009

A WPA-WHO Workshop on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Areas Affected by Disasters and Conflicts took place at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva from 27 to 31 July, 2009.

The Workshop is part of the WHO-WPA Work Plan 2008-2011. The participants are expected to orient other psychiatrists in their regions and to represent a resource for the WPA, the WHO and other UN related agencies when a new emergency occurs.

The Workshop was opened by Prof. Mario Maj, President of the World Psychiatric Association, and Dr. Ala Alwan, Assistant Director General, World Health Organization.

The facilitators of the Workshop were Mark van Ommeren, Lynne Jones, Pau Perez-Sales, Sabine Rakatomalala, Taghi Yasamy, Renato Souza, Helene Moller, Meena Cabral de Mello, Wilma Doedens, Tarun Dua, Nico Clark and Nathalie Casalis.
