During the WPA Regional Meeting in Cairo, January 2011, the Early Career Psychiatrists section of the Egyptian Psychiatric association (EECP), in collaboration with the WPA and the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM), arranged a symposium entitled “The Mental Health Gap in Addiction”. Prof. Maj, WPA President, was generous enough to have the time to open the symposium. Also, the session was joined and chaired by Prof. Rataemane, who was involved in the development of how to overcome the mental health gap for the GPs.
The main speaker was Prof. Tarek Abdel Gawad, ISAM President. He enlightened the attendees about how to overcome the mental health gap in addiction.
Prof. Tarek Molokhia, head of the Early Career Psychiatrists section in the Egyptian Psychiatric Association delivered a presentation about the activities of the section and its plans.
Dr. Andrea Fiorillo delivered a presentation entitled “Early career psychiatrists in Europe: development and future perspectives”. He shared the experience of European Early Career Psychiatrists and discussed the possibilities for future collaborations with the Egyptian section.
Dr. Hussien Elkholy acquainted the Egyptian Early Career Psychiatrists about the WPA council and its plan for 2011.
Around 30 people attended the session and participated in fruitful discussions following each presentation.
