The 4th SAARC Psychiatric Federation meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh
SAARC Psychiatric Federation organised its 4th regional meeting in Dhaka from 1-3 November 2008. This meeting was organised by the Bangladesh Association of Psychiatry and co-sponsored by WPA, South Asian division of Royal College of Psychiatrists, Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations (AFPA), World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation (WAPR), and South Asian Forum on Mental Health (SAF).
The meeting was attended by more than 300 delegates from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, UK, Australia, Sweden and many other neighbouring countries.
The meeting was inaugurated by the President of People Republic of Bangladesh in a very impressive ceremony. The scientific programme included plenary lectures, special symposia and free paper sessions covering a variety of clinical and research topics in Psychiatry. The participation of many young psychiatrists in the meeting showed the growing interest of young doctors in this speciality.
The organisers of this meeting, especially Prof Chowdhury, Prof Firoz, Prof Sobhan, Prof Mustafiz and other members of the organising committee, did a wonderful job by making this event a real success.
It is also worth mentioning that WPA will organise its regional meeting at Dhaka from 21-23 January in 2010.
