The Section on Exercise, Psychiatry and Sports recently got the approval of the WPA Executive Committee (EC) to publish a book with Wiley Press on Recent Advances in Sports Psychiatry: A Global Perspective. This manuscript will be authored by many current WPA Section members and edited by Prof. Baron, the current Section’s Chair. The book will cover the most significant issues in the field, including Eating Disorders in Athletes, Doping in Sports, Diagnosis and Treatment of Depression in Athletes, Personality Disorders in Athletes, Psychotherapy in Athletes and many others. Given the current importance of psychiatric aspects of head trauma in athletes, new research in this area will be provided. The need to identify valid and reliable biomarkers to assist sports clinicians in deciding when it is safe to return to play post head injury will be highlighted. The Section is very pleased to have received the EC’s endorsement, and is committed to have this book reflect positively on the WPA and its ongoing concern for all aspects of global mental health. Any WPA member interested in this project is encouraged to contact Prof. Baron at firstname.lastname@example.org.
