3rd Young Psychiatrists’ Network – EFPT Meeting
“Stigma from the YPs' perspective: Hopes and Challenges”
27-29 September 2012, Minsk, Belarus
The Young Psychiatrists’ Network (YPN) is a rapidly growing movement of young and active psychiatrists from all over the world, eager to reunite psychiatric theory and practice and ensure transfer of knowledge between different psychiatric traditions. The aims of the Network include: creating a forum for communication and collaboration between young psychiatrists (YPs), facilitating the formation of an international YPs’ identity, and boosting the personal and professional growth of YPs worldwide. Activities of the network during the last few years have focused mainly on organizing annual meetings to achieve the aforementioned goals, this being the culmination of significant efforts throughout the year.
The 3rd YPN Meeting took place on 27-29 September 2012 in Minsk, Belarus. The meeting was titled “Stigma from the YPs' perspective: Hopes and Challenges”. After inspiring lectures of world-known experts, participants had many opportunities to share their views on the issue of stigma during workshops and poster sessions. The emphasis of the meeting was to involve young colleagues as much as possible. The booklet with participants’ abstracts was also published. Service users made a contribution to the conference by exhibiting their paintings, the best being awarded with a prize.
The meeting was even more important because it was the first international psychiatric conference to be held in Belarus. It was attended by 74 participants from 21 countries, and supported by the European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees (EFPT), Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (BelMAPGE) and Belarusian Psychiatric Association (BPA).
We are looking forward to the next meeting in Wroclaw (Poland) and invite YPs and other mental health professionals from around the world to join the network by registering on the Google groups and Facebook and contributing to the 4th YPN Meeting!
