The 12th Pan Arab Conference on Psychiatry
The Conference was held in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) on 29 November-1 December 2012. It was organized by the Emirates medical association under the umbrella of the Arab Fedration of Psychiarists, and was co-sponsored by the WPA
The conference was a rich scientific meeting which included 3 plenary sessions and 13 keynote lectures, 5 workshops, 16 abstract sessions with over 60 oral Presentations, 24 poster presentations, and the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists General Assembly and Elections.
The title “Mental Health Changes in the Arab World- Trauma, violence & recovery” was carefully considered due to the significant changes in the region and the intensity of the violence following such changes leading to the trauma and mental health issues associated with them. At the same time we did not want to ignore the recovery stage which is the ultimate aim of the treating team around the world. The goal of this year’s meeting was to bring psychiatrists and other allied healthcare professionals treating patients with psychiatric illnesses up-to-date with the current practices and issues currently affecting the globe, particularly focusing on those within the Middle East.
