Religion, Spirituality and Psychiatry

The WPA Section on Religion, Spirituality and Psychiatry has succeeded in presenting the Section’s activities in several symposia and workshops entitled as:

  1. “Religion and Spirituality Survey” conducted by Profs. Nahla Nagy and Peter Verhagen
  2. ”Integration between Religion and Spirituality in Psychotherapy” presented by Simon Dein, Peter Verhagen, and Nahla Nagy
  3. “Political Islam and Middle East Revolutions” given by Prof. Ahmad Okasha, Prof. Driss Moussaoui and Nahla Nagy
  4. “Religious Symptoms and Inheritance in OCD” delivered by Prof. Tarek Okasha and Nahla Nagy

The Section’s committee would be pleased to invite our colleagues to read the third issue of the Section’s Newsletter ‘’Psyche and Spirit’’ edited by Alexander Moreira-Almeida, Simon Dein, and Peter Verhagen on the WPA website and the Section’s website at www.religionandpsychiatry.com. (Abstracts of the presentations mentioned before are included.)

The Section will organize symposia and workshop during the coming annual meeting of the APA 2013, the World Congress of Social Psychiatry in Lisbon (29 June-3 July 2013), and WPA International WPA Congresses in Istanbul (19-23 June 2013) and[P1]  Vienna (27-30 October 2013) with the aim to increase awareness about the issue of religion and spirituality in  psychiatric practice. The Section will start regular worldwide training workshops for psychiatric residents with interactive participation and cultural considerations.
