Joint WPA Workshop of the Schizophrenia Section and the Section on Quality Assurance at the “4th European Conference on Schizophrenia Research – Together for better treatment and care”, 26 – 28 September 2013, Berlin, Germany.
The ECSR is a WPA co-sponsored meeting that is jointly organized by the European Scientific Association on Schizophrenia and other Psychoses (ESAS), the Competence Network on Schizophrenia, the EPA and DGPPN and is supported by the Asian Network for Schizophrenia Research (ANSR). This biennial thematic conference addresses recent developments in schizophrenia research as well as challenges in clinical settings. The subtitle “Together for better treatment and care” underlines the need for comprehensive efforts to improve the situation of schizophrenia patients which despite recent progress still poses many challenges to those affected by schizophrenia as well as to researchers and clinicians.
As co-sponsor and with regard to the motto of this congress Afzal Javed, WPA Secretary of Sections, initiated a workshop on “International perspectives of quality of care and integration of persons with schizophrenia” to be included into the scientific program of the ECSR.
Afzal Javed and the congress president Wolfgang Gaebel serving also as chair of the Section on Schizophrenia as well as on Quality Assurance invited distinguished colleagues to provide short presentations on the current situation and different models of care in order to encourage a discussion on how to improve quality of care and explore further directions in this area like setting guidelines and recommendations aiming at ensuring treatment and optimizing quality of life for persons with schizophrenia in developing countries.
