The World Congress of Mental Health was held this year in Buenos Aires, Argentina on August 25-28 with great success and great attendance (more than 5.000 attendants, 22 simultaneous sessions in three congress sites, active participation of patients and families).
During the Congress, succession of Leadership of the Federation was carried out and Prof. George Christodoulou started his duties as President of the Federation succeeding Ms. Deborah Wan from Hong Kong, China.
Prof. Christodoulou is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Athens. He has been active in the area of mental health for many years. In relation to the World Psychiatric Association he has served as Secretary for Sections, Chair of the Section on Preventive Psychiatry, Chair of the Ethics Committee and Chair of the Institutional Program on the psychosocial consequences of Disasters, has edited a number of WPA books like “Topics in Preventive Psychiatry” and “Anthology of Greek Psychiatric Texts” and has been the Editor of “Science and Care”, the Bulletin of the WPA Scientific Sections.
The World Federation for Mental Health was established in 1948 to serve Treatment, Prevention and Promotion in Mental Health, it has members and contacts in more than 100 countries on six continents and it is the only worldwide advocacy and public education organization in the mental health field.
