Pedro Ruiz receives “WASP Yves Pelicier Prize” 

WPA President Pedro Ruiz was awarded the First “WASP Yves Pelicier Prize” for Science and Humanism during the 21st World Congress of Social Psychiatry at Lisbon on June 29- July 3, 2013. 

The Judging Committee was chaired by Eliot Sorel. Other members were RachidBennegadi, Maria Luisa Figueira, Julio Arboleda-Florez, Thomas Craig-Jamieson, Driss Moussaoui (President WASP), Wolfgang Rutz, and Jorge Alberto Costa e Silva

Selection criteria were: Distinguished and outstanding contribution in two or more categories as indicated below. 

  • Basic sciences and somatic medicine
  • Intersecting with psychological medicine
  • The Social Sciences- philosophy, sociology, anthropology, history, literature
  • Integrated and manifest in research and/or therapeutic interventions
  • Psychotherapeutic, psychopharmacologic and medical
  • And the frontiers of neuroscience research
  • A profound respect for the rights of and devotion to those whom care is given 

The Prize:

  • $10,000.00 award
  • Ceremonial Lecture at WASP Congress
  • Science and Humanism Prize Diploma 

WASP President Driss Moussaoui presented the Prize to Pedro Ruiz at a glittering ceremony held on 29 June 2013.

WPA Bucharest Congress

Our Section organized an inter-sectional Symposium on April 10, 2013 with the WPA Section on Ecology, Psychiatry and Mental Health and the WPA Section on Intellectual Disability.

WASP Lisbon Congress

Our Section organized a WPA inter-sectional Symposium on the theme “Mental Health and Work Environment” during the 21st World Congress of Social Psychiatry in Lisbonon June 30, 2013 along with the WPA Section on Public Policy and Psychiatry andthe WPA Section on Conflict Management and Conflict Resolution.
