" The Conflict Management and Resolution Section is now embarking on a collaborative project with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars (WWIC) at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., with an emphasis on the Cold War International History Project (CWIHP). The collaboration made its debut on Wednesday September 10th when Professor Eliot Sorel, M.D., D.F.A.P.A., chaired the opening of the Romania Initiative with a focus on the Sighet Memorial commemorating the intelectual, political, and spiritual Romanian leaders who died in the Sighet prison- now a Memorial - between 1950 and 1955. A beginning of truth and reconciliation process and the healing of the communist trauma in that country. A contemplated future aspect of the collaboration may involve the updating of the content and proces of the teaching of history at the High Schools and University levels, another step in the healing process from the trauma of communism. It will be done in the spirit of one of the Memorial's leaders - Ana Blandiana - who stated : 'When justice does not succeed in being a form of memory, memory itself can be a form of justice'." |
