About WPA
The WPA is psychiatry’s global association representing 140 psychiatric societies in 120 countries, and bringing together more than 250,000 psychiatrists.  It promotes collaborative work in psychiatry through its 70 scientific Sections, education programs, publications and events.

Standing Committees

What are Standing Committees?

The five Standing Committees of WPA play a key advisory and decision-making role within the association.  Comprising Ethics and Review, Finance and Fundraising, Nominations, Planning, and Science, Education and Publications, each committee works to make recommendations to the Executive for review and approval.

Ethics & Review

Responsible for identifying and exploring areas of ethical concern to psychiatry, producing   recommendations, & drafting consensus statements on ethical issues.

Nominations

 Responsible for managing the election process for all designated posts of the WPA, including ensuring nominations are valid, candidates are eligible and voting procedures are sound.  

Planning

Responsible for review and management of WPA Statutes and Bylaws, preparing triennial action plans and for WPA's long-term development, programs and resource utilisation. 

Science, Education & Publications

Responsible for overseeing all scientific activities of the WPA including the scientific sections, education, publications and scientific meetings. 

Finance & Fundraising

Responsible for the development and care of WPA’s policies and activities in relation to finances, investments, fundraising and auditing of accounts, as well as formulating recommendations for the annual budget and triennial financial plan.
