About

Suicidology is a wide and interdisciplinary field ranging from philosophy, literature and religion to social sciences, genetics and psychiatry. The WPA Section on Suicidology was established on the eve of the third millennium. It aims at bringing together different perspectives on suicide and suicidal behaviours, so promoting a better understanding of these behaviours and encouraging the implementation of effective prevention strategies.

The Section counts 29 members from 18 countries and actively participates in WPA regional and international conferences. Furthermore, the Section sponsored other conferences such as the First Latin-American International Meeting for Suicide Prevention (Montevideo, Uruguay, 2004), the Roman Forum on Suicide (Rome, Italy, 2015 and 2017) and the 1st international conference “Promoting the mental health and wellbeing of children and adolescents” (Almaty, Kazakhstan, 2018).
