Meet the Speakers: WPA Course on Telepsychiatry

Speaker 1 || Dr Davor Mucic

Course Director, Dr. Davor Mucic, MD, is a psychiatrist in Denmark with special interest in the use of technology in the provision of mental health care. Dr. Mucic established the Little Prince Treatment Center where several pioneer telepsychiatry projects in Denmark were developed since 2004, launched the Telemental Health Section within the European Psychiatric Association (EPA) and re-activated the Section on Informatics within the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) where he remains a board member for this section. Dr. Mucic is the Editor-in-Chief of Edorium Journal of Psychiatry and has published a number of scientific articles related to telepsychiatry development in Denmark. Dr. Mucic has also written the book 'e-Mental Health' together with Dr. Hilty. He recently led the production of the WPA Telepsychiatry Global Guidelines and was awarded an Honorary Member of WPA for his service.


Speaker 2 || Dr. Jay Shore

Dr. Jay Shore, MD, is a Professor and The Director of Telemedicine Programming in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. His career has focused on the use of ongoing technology in mental health. He currently is participating in multiple projects, which include development, implementation, and assessment of programs in native, rural, and military settings aimed at improving both quality and access to care. Dr. Shore has consulted for tribal, state, and federal agencies and served on planning and/or grant review committees for several federal agencies including the Department of Defense, the Indian Health Service, and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Shore is a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrist, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Telemedicine Association. He is the current chair of the American Psychiatric Association’s Telepsychiatry Committee.


Speaker 3 || Dr. Donald M. Hilty

Dr. Donald M. Hilty, MD, M.B.A, is a scholar in psychiatric, medical education, health services and telemedicine. He works with the Veterans Health Administration on technology implementation, as a Professor at the UC Davis School of Medicine and in medical administration for UHS Heritage Oaks Hospital. He speaks internationally and researches models of care, health economics and the clinical application of video, mobile health, sensors and other technologies. His current research is in implementation and evaluation of video, social media, mobile health and asynchronous competencies for psychiatry, behavioral health and medicine. Dr. Hilty serves as Editor of the Journal of Technology in Behavioral Science and Psychology and Cognitive Science and the Innovation in Technology Column for Academic Psychiatry. He has written 200 publications and also the book 'e-Mental Health' together with Dr. Mucic. He serves on the APA-IOM and APA-ATA Guideline Writing Groups.
