Governance

The WPA Secretariat and Executive Committee work with a Board of zonal representatives, a Council of past presidents and five Standing Committees covering Ethics & Review, Planning, Nominations, Finance and Fundraising, and Science, Education and Publications.

Board: Zonal Representatives

The Board of WPA is made up of 18 zonal representatives from across the globe.  They are elected by the WPA General Assembly to work with member societies in a defined geographical zone.  They meet annually to consider and advise the WPA Executive Committee and the WPA General Assembly on the work of the WPA.

Council

Past Presidents of the WPA form its Council, with each member serving for a period of six years.  After that time, they become emeritus council members.  The council offers recommendations and advice to the WPA Executive Committee about any matters affecting the mission and strategy of the WPA.  They meet once every three years before the General Assembly.

Standing Committees

The nine standing committees of the WPA are essential to its day-to-day governance.  The committees are comprised of members appointed by the WPA President in consultation with the Executive Committee.
