Professor Michaela Amering was selected by the members of the European Psychiatric Association’s (EPA) jury as the winner of the EPA “Constance Pascal – Helen Boyle Prize” of €10,000 for “Outstanding Achievement by a Woman in Working to Improve Mental Health Care in Europe for 2021”! The WPA President, Professor Afzal Javed, commented “We are thrilled that Prof. Amering, our chair of an Action Plan Working Group on Partnerships with Service Users and Family Carers, has been awarded with such a prestigious prize from the EPA”.

The recently established Indian Association of Psychiatry Trainees (IAPT) held its first event on 28 February 2021 to officially launch the association. During this important gathering, IAPT also announced a new initiative, the “Asian Federation of Psychiatry Trainees Interest Group (AFPTIG)”, which aims to support psychiatry trainees across Asia. Proposed by the IAPT President, Dr Sharad Philip, the initiative is fully supported by the WPA. At the event, WPA President, Professor Afzal Javed emphasised the “role that numerous WPA activities play in supporting the promotion of psychiatry training, as well as how they improve access and opportunities, particularly in Asia”.

During the 20th WPA World Congress of Psychiatry earlier this month, immediate past-President of the World Psychiatric Association, Professor Helen Herrman, announced Professor Hannelore Ehrenreich as the winner of the 2020 Jean Delay prize. Professor Hannelore Ehrenreich is a remarkable and distinguished winner, and is the first woman to win the prize. Not only is she a psychiatrist, but she is also a veterinarian and physician of neurology and psychiatry. Her work extends from molecular-cellular characterisation of disease-relevant phenotypes to genotype-phenotype associations of human and animal behaviour and to clinical studies; and beyond that, to the promotion of science and psychiatry in society.
