The 3rd Samarkand Spring School for Young Psychiatrists and Narcologists

From 8 to 12 April 2026, the 3rd Samarkand Spring School for Young Psychiatrists and Narcologists was held at Samarkand State Medical University, Republic of Uzbekistan. The School was an important international scientific and educational event aimed at supporting a new generation of mental health professionals.

The School served as a significant international scientific and educational platform for strengthening professional cooperation among the countries of Zone 10 of the World Psychiatric Association.

The School was organised by the Association of Psychiatrists of Uzbekistan, with the support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Scientific Center for Mental Health, and leading medical universities of Uzbekistan from Samarkand and Tashkent.

This year, the School was held under the auspices of the World Psychiatric Association, with active participation from all countries of WPA Zone 10.

At the opening ceremony, the strategic importance of systematic support for young specialists and the strengthening of international academic cooperation was emphasized. The event was opened by Asilbek Khudayarov, Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Professor Thomas G. Schulze, President-Elect of the World Psychiatric Association, whose support highlighted the importance of the School for the WPA professional community.

The event brought together 142 young psychiatrists and narcologists from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, as well as more than 45 leading educators and experts from Belarus, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, the United States, France, and Uzbekistan.

The 3rd Samarkand Spring School became an important milestone in the development of a shared professional space for young mental health specialists within WPA Zone 10.
