WPA EC and Council Members

The WPA WG has announced a fellowship (Travel Award) for medical school students to attend the 22nd WPA World Congress of Psychiatry (WCP) in Bangkok, Thailand later this year (3rd-6th August).

This exciting opportunity is open to all medical students. The medical students are invited to submit an essay of up to 1500 words (including references) on the topic of “Breaking the Silence: How is STIGMA a barrier to mental health?”

The lucky two winners will receive USD $1000 each which will cover the travel and accommodation costs to attend the WCP Congress and the registration fee will also be waived. The winners will be from two different countries and will be acknowledged at WPA Annual Conference in Bangkok.

After the past couple of years where we have been forced to move our world Congress to an online virtual format, this year’s congress in Bangkok is set to be an amazing event bringing together the world’s psychiatric community. The congress, with the theme “Psychiatry 2022: The need for empathy and action”, we will examine and discuss all the crucial issues in psychiatry and mental health and are setting up an exciting scientific programme with numerous sessions and lectures that convoy our present scientific and technological revolution. Delegates and the winning medical students will certainly profit from up-to-date research data, the best lectures from experts in all fields of mental health, high-quality scientific content, interaction between mental health and other health and social care professionals, patients and carers, and relevant peer-to-peer networking.

Bangkok is considered among one of the most beautiful cities in Asia. In addition to attending a high-quality scientific deliberation, you will have the chance to enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

More information on the fellowship, the requirements and deadlines can be found here.

Deadline and Schedule: All submissions must be submitted to, (including ‘WPA MEDICAL STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITION” in the subject heading), by midnight (GMT) on the 15th of June 2022.

We look forward to receiving some interesting and enriching submissions for this award and welcoming the winner in Bangkok.
